Surgical Program Description

Overview

The 7 Surgical sessions are spread throughout the year to maximise your learning experience. The information is contemporary and evidence based. The session order allows a confident progression of surgical skill and knowledge of these facets of implant surgery.

The Soft Tissue and Frozen Cadaver programs are advanced two day separate programs

Session 1: Patient Evaluation and Treatment Planning

This session concentrates on patient evaluation and treatment planning. There are more than 50 dental criteria that influence implant supported prostheses. These criteria are identified and given importance relative to long and short-term complications. Radiographic stent design, CT scan interpretation and suture techniques are presented in lecture and laboratory procedures. This will enable treatment planning of cases for the Surgical and Prosthetic Sessions.

Session 2: Implant Placement and Treatment of Division A Bone

This session concentrates on methods to treat Division A bone. In depth training includes root form surgery, bone density, multiple implants, immediate implant placement, root form uncovery, short and long term root form complications and anterior single tooth implants. A live surgical demonstration is included. Methods of treating Division C bone will also be presented and participants will place implants in their own patients under supervision.

Session 3: Particulate and Membrane Grafting - Treatment of Division B Bone

This session is on the treatment of Division B bone, which includes the use of narrow root form implants (and design configuration), socket graft, osteoplasty, or bone augmentation (with membranes). A live surgical demonstration is included. Participants will perform these surgeries on their own patients under supervision.

Session 4: The Posterior Maxilla - Including Sinus Grafts

This session encompasses the surgical approach to and treatment planning of the posterior maxilla, which includes sinus elevation and sinus surgery complications. A live surgical demonstration is included. Sinus labs will be undertaken prior to supervised surgery.

Session 5: Advanced Bone Grafting - Block Graft Harvesting

This session focuses on advanced bone grafting. Treatment planning highlights considerations of the anterior maxilla for implant prostheses. The use of the ramus and chin as block grafting sites will be presented. A live surgical demonstration is included. Labs will be undertaken prior to supervised surgery.

Session 6: Frozen Cadaver Surgical Program

Performing surgery on frozen cadavers is extremely life like. Participants can perform the procedures and experience the use of the operating microscope.

Procedures are performed on heads that have been scanned and planned with SimPlant. Included are: Atraumatic tooth removal and ridge preservation techniques, flap design and advanced suturing, tissue relief to allow tension free flap closure, mental nerve exposure, Piezo harvesting of bone, trephine bur harvest, barrier membrane manipulation and tacking, lateral wall approach to the maxillary sinus and dental implant placement. This program is restricted to 16 participants.

Session 7: Soft Tissue - Plastic Surgery Program

Soft Tissue is the key for esthetic bone grafting and long-term implant health. The use of acellular dermal matrix for soft tissue augmentation on teeth and implants are presented. Pre-prosthetic procedures, such as tuberosity reduction are covered.
